Acupuncture for Insomnia & Poor Sleep in Koh Samui

Quick answer

Acupuncture helps you sleep by calming the nervous system and treating the underlying pattern — whether you struggle to fall asleep, wake through the night, or get up still exhausted. At Piraluna many patients sleep better the very night of their first treatment.

Almost eight out of ten of our patients report a sleep problem, often tied to the pain or stress that first brought them in. Sleeping pills force the body down; TCM works the other way, settling the system that should be letting you rest on its own.

How we treat it at Piraluna

At Piraluna we match the treatment to your specific sleep pattern. Trouble falling asleep, 1am-to-3am waking, racing thoughts and light, fragile sleep are each different patterns in TCM with different points. Your practitioner reads your pulse and tongue, then uses acupuncture to shift your body out of fight-or-flight, often adding moxibustion or a herbal formula where the pattern calls for it.

Treat the root, not one symptom

Poor sleep is usually the visible tip of pain, stress or hormonal patterns — fix the root and deep, restorative sleep tends to return with it.

What it costs

Many patients notice a change within the first one or two sessions. Long-standing insomnia usually settles over a course of 6 to 10.

Common questions

How does acupuncture help you sleep? +

It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, lowers cortisol and supports natural melatonin and GABA — moving the body out of the over-aroused state that keeps you awake.

I wake at the same time every night — can TCM help? +

Yes. Waking at a consistent hour is a recognised pattern in TCM (the organ clock) and points us to the specific imbalance to treat.

Will I need to take herbs? +

Not always. We use herbal formulas only where your pattern calls for them; many sleep cases respond to acupuncture alone. Herbs, if recommended, are priced separately.

How much does a session cost? +

A single session is 2,000 THB. Packages of 5 and 10 reduce the per-session cost for a course.
